Three ways Trump is trying to end the Harris honeymoon

In a time of unprecedented upheaval in modern American political history, Kamala Harris is treading lightly. It may not last long.

Tony Fabrizio, who voted for Donald Trump's campaign, called it "Harris Honeymoon" - where the combination of good journalism and good energy helped the Democrats.

Of course, the honeymoon will end. The reality of married life, or in this case, the relationship between Ms. Harris and the American electorate, can repeat himself.

Now the champagne corks are flying for Team Harris and the Democrats may be feeling the unknown - hope. But the Republicans, after receiving the historic announcement of Mr. Biden, turning their spotlight on a new candidate.

Here's a look at three areas their recent attacks have focused on — and some ways Democrats might try to stop them.

  1. Calling Harris a 'radical' leftist
The problems in the campaign Ms. Harris's failure for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination is well documented. They include a lack of clear information, controversial media, and a person who continues to be interviewed and insulted.
However, something else happened during the presidential candidacy of the then senator. He, like many candidates in the race, has moved to the left to support the Democratic primary.
"There's a lot of pressure on these guys from the roots of the movement," said Matt Bennett, executive vice president of public affairs for the Third Street Democratic Center. "When you run for the first time, the things you bring to power are very different than at the end of a general election."
In 2019 - debate and interview - Mrs. Harris supported the withdrawal of private health insurance from the public system. He praised police reforms, including changes to the law enforcement budget. He authorized the investigation of illegal entry into the United States by removing Snow, the agency that oversees Immigration and Customs Enforcement. He supported the Green New Deal environmental legislation and supported the ban on drilling and water supply.
Now these conditions may come back to him.

Republican candidate David McCormick of Pennsylvania quickly ran television ads attacking Ms. Harris' 2019 and tied with his opponent, Democratic Senator Bob Casey. and Trump has released a video "MEET SAN FRANCISCO RADICAL KAMALA HARRIS" which includes many of the laws she advocated at the time. Matt Walsh, who explains the changes in , called the attack on the vice president "brazen". "You can rightly argue that good leaders change their policy situation and not change its principles," said Democratic strategist Bennett. "None of his principles have changed." If he fails to do this clearly, he may lose the support of independent and undecided voters in key swing states.
2. Tying Harris to Biden's record

According to polls, Biden's campaign has been going strong for months. His immigration laws are unpopular. Although inflation is falling and the economy is growing, voters continue to blame him for high prices. Israel's continued support for the war in Gaza has eroded support among young voters. . Ms Harris, in her role as deputy prime minister, at least has a full record of the current administration - good and bad. Republicans have tried to tighten the immigration issue around their necks, calling it the "overreach" of the administration - an inaccurate and damaging characterization used in the campaign. They cite his past comments on immigration and his comments in the 2022 interview that "borders are secure." Kamala Harris is known as an apathetic, failed VP who has known herself behind bars to get an election she can't earn, but voters are about to learn, it's getting worse, "Taylor Budowich, a lobbyist for his political committee. . In addition to the Trump campaign, $32 million is being spent on television advertising seeking the vice president.

Ms. Harris will not be able to avoid Biden's record entirely, Mr. But it may be shining a new light on voters, even in the face of a Republican fight, Bennett said. "What he can do is do it in the future in a way that will be very difficult for an 81-year-old man," he said. "You could argue that Trump just wants to think about it."

3. Attacking her years as a prosecutor

In the first public meeting of her presidential campaign, Mrs. Harris took a sharp line against the former president. Explaining that he worked as a lawyer and prosecutor in California, he said he met "all kinds of criminals."
"So listen to me talk like Donald Trump," he concluded.
Craig Varoga, a Democratic campaign manager and adjunct professor at American University, called the president's law enforcement background "extremely powerful" -- something he couldn't fully attribute to Democratic campaign of 2019, when the police reform has been this. big talk.
But the Trump campaign is already showing signs of how they might respond. His campaign manager, Chris LaCivita, made himself a part of the Republican Party by bringing in another Democratic candidate who was seen as a strong opponent.
Back in 2004, Democratic candidate John Kerry presented his record as an excellent Vietnam veteran to prove that he would be an effective commander in chief during the Iraq War. Mr. LaCivita has led many attacks that question the patriotism and courage of Mr. Kerry, including against their sailors and Mr. Kerry worked with Navy ships patrolling the coast of Vietnam.
He coined the term "Swift-boating", which means freeing a politician by attacking their perceived power.
And the Trump campaign appears to be preparing for an attack on the president's impeachment record.
Likewise, they hit hard—especially black men with drug convictions—to undermine his support base. Meanwhile, they cited examples of Ms. Harris choosing not to prosecute or to let other offenders go.
Mr Varoga acknowledged the Democrats' poor response to the 2004 Swift attack, but said they had learned their lesson and Ms Harris was ready to attack.
"If LaCivita thinks he's fooling the entire Democratic establishment again, he can live with that deception and lose," he said.

A race to define Harris

In his statement, Mr Fabrizio said Ms Harris "cannot change who she is and what she has done". He promised that voters would soon see him as Biden's "pilot and pilot" and learn from "the dangerous record of freedom. "
The next attack campaign, along with Trump's public statements and political attacks, will be the tip of this Republican spear.
In the meantime, Ms. Harris and her campaign are working to create their own description of the candidate and what he stands for.
According to Mr. Varoga, one effective way to do this is the appointment of the president.
"This is the first decision of the presidential candidate made public," he said. "That will help people understand what kind of future he wants." If he chooses a moderate partner, he can convince voters that he will govern from the center rather than the left-wing Republicans. Battle to explain Ms. Harris in the coming weeks - through his speech, voice and media coverage - will go a long way in determining how the public views him when they go to the polls in November.
The holiday season is shaping up to end in heartbreak for Democrats or the party for the next four years.
