Current Situation The Palisades Fire is affecting areas in Mandeville Canyon. Firefighters are working hard, but strong winds expected later today could hinder their efforts. As of now, the Palisades Fire is 11% contained and has burned around 21,600 acres. The Eaton Fire is 15% contained and covers over 14,000 acres.

Other Fires The Kenneth Fire has burned 1,000 acres and is 80% contained. The Hurst Fire has burned 800 acres and is 76% contained. The Lidia Fire is fully contained.

New Developments On January 11, 2025, around 2:53 PM ET, it was reported that the Palisades Fire threatened homes in an affluent area with large properties and scenic views. As firefighters battle multiple blazes, the situation is made more difficult by dry conditions. The fire expanded by about 1,000 acres overnight, leading to new evacuation orders for parts of Brentwood and Encino. The Getty Center is in the evacuation zone but remains undamaged.

As of Saturday morning, firefighters had contained 11% of the Palisades Fire and 15% of the Eaton Fire, according to Cal Fire. These two fires have claimed at least 11 lives and destroyed thousands of homes, making them some of the worst in California's history. The number of casualties may increase.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass stated that officials are focused on safety as high winds approach. The sheriff’s department reported at least 13 individuals are missing, but it is uncertain if they are linked to the fires. Around 153,000 residents are under evacuation orders, with about 57,000 structures still at risk.

A curfew is in effect from 6 PM to 6 AM for areas under mandatory evacuation.

What to Expect Strong winds known as Santa Ana winds are forecasted to begin later today and continue into Sunday morning.

Additional Fires Fire control efforts have made headway on the Kenneth and Hurst fires, with containment levels at 80% and 76%, respectively.

Water Supply Issue Following reports that a vital reservoir was offline at the fire's onset, California Governor Gavin Newsom announced an independent review into why firefighters faced water shortages. He expressed concern over the situation.

Victims Those who lost their lives include a man in his 60s, a retired aerospace engineer who served as a church deacon, and a retired pharmacy technician remembered fondly by her neighbors.

Destruction Overview The total area affected by this week's fires is larger than several individual counties.
