Adidas has removed supermodel Bella Hadid, who is half-Palestinian, in an advertising campaign for retro shoes that refer to the 1972 Munich Olympics.
Israel criticizes Ms. Hadid's choice. He accused them of being hostile to Israel and said that 11 Israeli players were killed by Palestinian forces during a match in Munich.
Adidas later apologized and said it was "reviewing" its campaign.
Ms Hadid has been a strong supporter of the Palestinians and earlier this year donated money to help the war in Gaza.
alkhabrfdakika News has contacted Hadid's representatives for comment.
The German sportswear company contacted Hadid to promote its SL72 trainers, which first debuted at the 1972 Olympics.
However, the photo of the American model wearing the shoes sparked criticism, including on X's official Israeli account (formerly Twitter).
"What do you think about the face of their advertising? Bella Hadid, half a Palestinian model," read Thursday's post.
It refers to the attack on the 1972 Games, which happened when the Black September team entered the Olympic City. In addition to the Israeli players, a German police officer lost his life. Another
social media users defended Ms Hadid and called for Adidas to be removed after she moved to pull the plug on the campaign.
Adidas confirmed to AFP that Hadid had been removed from the campaign.
In a statement to the media, the agency said it would "quickly review the remainder of the campaign."
"We know that they are connected to a terrible historical event - although they did nothing - and apologize for any sadness or trouble caused."
Hadid, whose father is Palestinian real estate investor Mohamed Anwar Hadid, is a vocal supporter of the war victims in Gaza.
In an Instagram post in May, Hadid said she was "deeply saddened by the loss of the Palestinian people and the lack of compassion from the world's political system."
Last month, he and his supermodel sister Gigi donated $1m (£785,000) to Palestinian aid.
The Gaza War begins when Hamas forces launch an unprecedented attack on Israel, killing around 1,200 people and taking 252 hostages back in Gaza.
Israel responded by launching a military operation in Gaza with the aim of destroying Hamas and freeing hostages.
According to Hamas medical officials, more than 38,900 people have been killed in Gaza since then.
