'The right move but is it too late?' Democratic voters react
US President Biden has been under pressure for weeks, but his announcement on Sunday afternoon that he was ending his re-election campaign was a shocker. But discussions are moving quickly about the next steps - and specifically, who will replace the Democratic candidate facing Donald Trump. We asked Democratic voters -- none of the Republicans are still convinced they can support Trump -- what they made of Mr. Trump's historic decision. Biden and his support of Kamala Harris, the current president. We start with an election that is happy with the news.
Anna would have voted for either of them for the Democratic Party, but said she would happily support Kamala Harris.
I hope Joe Biden will do this, I look forward to it today. I think he did good things for the community and it was a selfless act. I want to see someone young. I think Joe Biden is a good candidate, but he is young and serving another four years is too much to ask. Harris' support was right and motivated the group to unite. I think Kamala will be a great candidate, I'm excited to see her debate, I think she will bring energy back to the Democratic Party. The person he chose to be the vice president will attract people's attention in this campaign. I would like to see two women on the ticket, but that would be difficult because this is how it is. You really want to find a man from the swing state. Whoever says this is not a democratic system is wrong. Voters for Joe Biden elected Kamala Harris; This time it will be a democracy to choose someone else.
Matthew said it's sad to see Biden go, but he thinks he's a good choice for Democrats in the November election.Silvia hopes Harris' rise to reproductive freedom will be protected by Trump's second term.
At first I was shocked, then I started thinking about what will happen now, what the process is, how we change someone else. When [Biden] signed Harris for vice president, I immediately thought about who his running mate might be, so that it's not about women. I think we need to get a strong vice president from the Midwest. I love Gov. Gretchen Whitmer as president, but I think two women will step up to the people... I really like what he's doing, but I lean on Governor Shapiro. The is out and from what I've seen it's popular in the Midwest and we really need that in November. We need only strong champions, because for me now is not someone who can compete, but someone who can win. Women's reproductive rights are my top priority, and I'm fine with that because Vice President Harris is at the helm. This is an opportunity we cannot afford to lose, we need to come together as a party and support Donald Trump, we don't need him anymore.
